AW Edwards, an Australian subsidiary of Bouygues Construction, is on track with a $258 million contract to deliver the $335 million redevelopment of Ryde Hospital for the North Sydney Local Health District in Australia. Silver Thomas Hanley is the principal architect.
Work began earlier this year on a new emergency department, an expanded intensive care unit, theatres, an ambulatory care centre, a short-stay pediatric unit, more adult inpatient beds and an expanded medical imaging facility.
“We are proud to … contribute to improving access to quality healthcare for residents of the region,” Pierre-Eric Saint André, deputy CEO of France-based Bouygues, said in a statement. The new hospital building is scheduled to be completed in 2027.
The project includes a clinical building of 430,560 square meters and parking lots. Work on the hospital’s new main entrance, demolition of existing buildings and landscaping will continue in 2028. Last year, HPAC acted as the contractor for the first works in the demolition of three buildings and the site preparation
The buildings will integrate with the existing campus, including the Graythwaite Rehabilitation Center and Denistone House, a 146-year-old historic building. The project also includes new roads, urban spaces, landscaping and communications technology infrastructure.
To support the health district’s goal of being carbon neutral by 2035, the project includes capacity for more than 100 photovoltaic cells, infrastructure for 18 electric vehicle charging stations, a green roof and a fully integrated waste management facility.
