Planning and building a 2,800 tonne tonne cracking oven, 139 feet wide, 2,800 tonnes, and then transported a kilometer before connecting it carefully, it was a puzzle that took a thought-off thought and a top-notch coordination.
The team, including the contractor PCL Industrial Construction Co. And the owner Chevron Phillips Chemical Co., was closely coordinated to make a modular approach to the project, whose viability initially questioned many team members. The pre -construction services began in October 2019, and the Modular Assembly began in September 2021. A year later, the massive supermodul was transported to a mile to be connected to the eight existing units of the plant, with all the bowels ended in August 2023.
The team says that the original bakery was not auspicious for modular construction, leaving the engineering and construction teams to redesign the entire oven to adapt to the modular plane.
Danny Evans, responsible for the construction of PCL, assures that one of the largest carried out of the project is the power of the alignment between owner, contractor and engineering firm.
“We have created a strong and unified approach where all interest groups prioritized what was best for the project instead of individual interests,” he says. “This level of collaboration allowed us to navigate the challenges efficiently and maintain the impetus.”
Each of the 17 pre -Staiting modules of 140 tons that form the oven had its own set of design challenges and sequence requirements, bringing the engineering team to redesign modules to consider the deviation of extreme weights that are stacked to each other. In addition, an extensive planning and monitoring for all additional media was essential, as the module could not weigh more than 3,000 tonnes.
Evans assures that the team’s commitment to security and quality is taking place, with the strategies and processes that led to a project without registered injuries replicated in his current project, including early commitment to the client to establish clear expectations, reinforcing a culture of accountability between the crews and taking advantage of the experience of the field leaders who were instrumental in the success of the project.
