Semarang (ANTARA) – Semarang Mayor Hevearita Gunaryanti Rahayu said helicopters carrying “pumping water” were returning to help put out the fire at the Jatibarang Final Disposal Site (TPA) in Semarang.
“From Kalimantan, go through Surabaya, then Semarang. The ‘base’ will be in Semarang, yesterday was in Solo. The plan is tomorrow (10/10) morning (to depart),” Ita said on Monday, the nickname of Hevearita in Semarang. .
For now, he said, the fire-fighting process at the Jatibarang Landfill is still ongoing and will be completed with water pumps poured from above by helicopters.
According to him, there are several points that fire engines cannot reach, so alternative efforts are needed to extinguish them, such as using heavy machinery, such as backhoes and bulldozers.
“As the acting governor of Central Java (Nana Sudjana) stated, the most effective way is ‘water bombing,'” said the first woman to become mayor of Semarang.
As for the cause of the fire, Ita admitted that it was not yet known for certain because he suspected that it could be due to “human error”, for example carelessly tossing kerchiefs, or it could also be natural factors.
“We don’t know the cause (of the fire). If you look at it that way, it might as well be human error, right? It’s on the side of the road. There’s also a stake in front,” he said. .
For this reason, Ita said that surveillance cameras or CCTV will be installed around the Jatibarang Landfill because since September 18, 2023, there have been several fires, both in passive and active areas.
In fact, he also proposed having thermal CCTV that could detect heat as a measure to anticipate another fire at the Jatibarang Landfill.
“I have asked the Environment Agency (DLH) to install CCTV and make it stricter on people going in. It turned out yesterday that it had not been installed. I also asked for thermal CCTV for the early detection,” he said.
Earlier, a fire affected Jatibarang Landfill, Semarang City on Monday (18/9) afternoon and only went into the cooling process on Tuesday (19/9) around 0400 WIB.
Fires have broken out at least four times at the Jatibarang Landfill since September 2023, starting on Tuesday (9/19) and lasting more than a week, and with the help of “water bombing “.
“Water pumps” or water pumps are also being used to extinguish the Putri Cempo Solo TPA and the slopes of Mount Bromo, starting Saturday (9/23) to help extinguish the Jatibarang TPA.
The “water pumping” operation with BNPB’s Super Puma helicopter that took water from Jatibarang Reservoir with a carrying capacity of 4,000 liters of water ended on September 28.
