Although many companies have published personal protection teams, they say they are developed to adapt to women in construction, with contracting business groups and even regulators such as the health and safety administration in the work of the United States that support the efforts, there are still important obstacles to the massive adoption of PPE specifically designed and manufactured to protect women.

Arch is a company that tries to change it. Founded by Kaitlin McCarthy, CEO of Ionic Development, one of the only Women’s Commercial Real Estate Companies to Greater Boston, and Dr. Hillary Gallin, a doctor with a background in surgical care and anesthesiology, the firm was founded to close the long -term lagoons in the safety teams of the workplace with a focus on work, confidently and work. Women.

“ What if you gave birth to men, PPE of women and expect them to be taken? It is curious, because this really leads to the people, who seems socially unacceptable to give it to men, but not the other way around, ” said McCarthy, who has been provided to numerous visits from jobs reflected and of great visibility to fit men.

McCarthy and Gailin said that, in construction, the minimum order requirement of manufacturers often leaves the minority of women in a job in a situation where 50 or 100 vests or other protective equipment are not needed. As a result, safety managers often leave it to the few women on the site to buy their own PPE. This creates a situation where vests and other products appear in a job that was not purchased through the normal PPE hiring process, but through Amazon and they are not qualified by ANSI. PPE vests venue are eager, with a minimum order number.

“We acknowledge that you may not have 100 women in your workplace and, therefore, our minimum order amount is one,” said Gailin. “We are very happy to send -you are a vest and we want to support as many people as possible.” The first arch product is a reflective PPE vest for construction, but the flowing company plans to provide a complete range of special protection products for other fields such as forestry, agriculture and even healthcare.

Gailin pointed out a care experience in using security glasses for a medical procedure that inspired him to find a better PPE for all women at work.

“They were laser safety glasses, so they have special lenses, and their glasses were very, very thick and very, very heavy,” he said. “They do not need to be — but … engineers who are made mainly [them] They are mostly men, so they become heavy. She added: “Kaitlin and I are engineers training -we have been the only one [females] In all the classes we have been from the Third Degree Sciences Club. There are many opportunities to change the way the glasses adapt while keeping the same level of safety. “”

Gailin and McCarthy began the initial designs of forms for safety glasses and other narrow glasses to adapt to women’s faces, so they fit properly and do not constantly move because they are too large.

Contractors like Tocci Building Co. They already use the High Visibility Arch vest and Build Health International.

“We are now looking to design a long -visibility long sleeve t -shirt [women] to the workplace, but one that could also be used to run … or hunt … or for different activities not necessarily precisely [limited] In the workplace, “McCarthy said.” We are very excited and think of security as a much bigger problem than only when you are working ”

The Tocci Building, whose managers met for the first time with Arch co -founders at a Construction Safety Week event by 2023, have since adopted the PPE developer high visibility vest and launched it for all women employed and making them available to contractors.

“We had already bought vests that had female styles, but it was a situation where there was a minimum amount.” Said Matthew Chasse, Corporate Security Director of the Tocci and founder of Get It Home Safely LLC, a Security Training and Inspection Consulting firm instead of work. “So we are still using these vests today but we bought them [ARX vests] To do the craftsmen, try. So far, we have received good comments. “”

Arch plans to expand its personal protective equipment for women by 2026.
