Located in one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas in the US, this new clinic offers the St. George more convenient access to primary and pediatric care. The 15,208-square-foot facility includes several patient exam rooms, a small suite for minor outpatient medical procedures, a mental health counseling room, space for core laboratory and imaging services, and administrative and staff support areas.
With the project sitting on 5 hectares of former farmland, crews discovered several ancient irrigation lines buried on the property during excavation. In addition to making the soil less suitable for digging a foundation, some of these abandoned lines were still connected to a water source and were leaking.
In response, field crews consulted with geotechnical designers and engineers to determine how best to detect and address all buried lines. Leaky lines were cut and plugged, and lines that were cumbersome enough to interfere with the foundation were completely removed. Prompt and thorough communication was essential to resolve this unexpected issue quickly and limit potential delays at a critical early stage of the project.
Labor availability was another struggle, given the number of ongoing remote projects. To address this, the contractor made the most of existing relationships with business partners. Several subcontractors were adapted to free up staff, ensuring the clinic would have the manpower needed for a project of this size.
