Built on a 20-acre site, this $219.5 million state-of-the-art wastewater treatment facility treats 8 to 10 million gallons of water per day. The scope of the project also included an administrative center of 14,325 square meters.
EVWD’s goal was to integrate advanced wastewater treatment technologies, renewable energy generation, and community green spaces.
The East Valley Water District initiated the SNRC project through a collaborative procurement process. The design and construction team incorporated this culture into every facet of the project, even establishing a formalized partnership charter around their values of teamwork, respect, flexibility and technical excellence. During five years of construction, the project team logged 800,745 total work hours with only one incident of lost time. Throughout the design, the team identified and eliminated hazards related to the operation of heavy equipment, electrical work, and activities performed at height. The team took a proactive stance, thoroughly evaluating design options to mitigate key safety concerns such as being struck by objects, electrocution, falls and entrapment, as well as climate-related risks to prevent illness and slips related to the heat during the rain.
