Bam UK & Ireland has said it will cut jobs as it undergoes a “realignment” of its construction business.
In a statement, it said the overhaul will reduce the number of Bam’s “operational regions” from seven to five. Its North West and North East regions will be merged into one North region, while the South East region will be “merged across the London, West and Midlands regions”.
James Wimpenny, chief executive of construction at Bam, confirmed the changes would result in “a small number of redundancies”, but the company declined to specify how many jobs were at risk when asked. Construction news.
Wimpenny said: “Like most companies, we are constantly reviewing our structure and how we operate, in line with best practice and market conditions. As a result, we have today announced that we are reducing the number from seven to five of regions within Bam UK & Ireland’s construction segment.
“The changes will take effect from today and will see our North West and North East regions combined into one Northern region, which will be led by John Phillips, and our South East region will merge into our London, West and Midlands regions.. The Midlands region will be renamed the Central Region and will be led by Adam Harding. Our Scotland region is unaffected by the changes.
“Unfortunately, there will be a small number of redundancies, but where possible we are looking for alternative internal roles. This has been a considered decision, but the vast majority of what our people do, across our business and for our clients and customers every day, will not change.”
In 2021, Bam Construct made a pre-tax profit of £20.4m on a turnover of £919m. The company has not yet released annual results for 2022.
