Henry Construction Projects has been fined £234,000 after a demolition worker was seriously injured when he fell from a platform in Kensington, London.
Ovidiu Dobra was working for the company on a building site (pictured) in Kensington High Street when the incident happened on 2 March 2021.
Dobra, who was 51 at the time, was working on a 3-meter-high platform when it collapsed. He suffered serious injuries to both legs, which have left him with ongoing long-term difficulties with movement, basic functions and the ability to work, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) said in a statement on 19 of May
The building where he worked was being demolished as part of the construction of a new commercial and residential building.
An HSE investigation found the contractor failed to take adequate precautions to ensure the safety of people working at height.
Henry Construction Projects pleaded guilty to breaching Regulation 6(3) of the Work at Height Regulations 2005. The company was fined £234,000 and ordered to pay £12,369 in costs, after from a hearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on May 16.
HSE Inspector Saif Deen said: “Falls from height are one of the leading causes of fatalities and serious injuries in the workplace.
“This incident was completely preventable. Employers must monitor the risk of working at height to ensure it is carried out in a way that is reasonably practicable and safe.
