The crews that demolished a former league baseball state in Rhode Island on May 12 discovered an 85-year-old capsule.
Close on the cornerstone of the old Pawtucket McCoy stadium, Ri, the time capsule was discovered during demolition work to prepare for a $ 326 million project of Pawtucket High School.
The discovered capsule will open in a June 23 ceremony commemorating the 44th anniversary of the longest professional baseball party. The 33 -year -old match was played at the MCCOY Stadium in 1981. It is believed that a second capsule with articles commemorating the longest game can be buried somewhere between the house plate and the pitcher mound.

Chris Maury, a pre -construction chief of the Shawmut New England region, said in a statement that the project team approaches the demolition with “maximum security and precision, balancing progress with a deep respect for the historical significance of the site and the potential of discovering significant artifacts.”
He said that it was “an exciting time for our team to discover, identify and carefully preserve the capsule found in the original cornerstone of the stadium. We continue to look for the second rumored time capsule, and we have deployed the technology of radar penetrating the ground to support this effort. We remain committed to a safe and respectful process at each step.”
The capsule was placed on the stadium angular stone on November 3, 1940 by Pawtucket Mayor Thomas McCoy, as part of a cornerstone for the project, according to Pawtucket Times.
The project of 375,000 square meters, which is expected to be completed in December 2028, will be the only school project in the history of Rhode Island. The new campus will serve approximately 2,100 high school students.

And while the city is missing its former baseball team, Pawtucket opened a football stadium in the league less than $ 132 million on May 3. Built in a brown field, the stadium, the part of the largest Tidewater stadium complex of $ 344 million, is the first stage of 100% electric football in the United States.
