Reno’s construction market continues to demonstrate broad resilience in the industrial, multifamily and commercial sectors, supported by steady population growth, ongoing business relocation and sustained investment in public infrastructure, Clutts says.
High interest rates and rising construction costs have caused some private developers to pause or reposition projects, but long-term community needs, particularly affordable housing and labor, remain catalysts for regional construction activity.
“We stay flexible and focus on the fundamentals,” says Clutts, president, CEO and managing partner of Metcalf Builders, a 30-year-old commercial contractor based in Reno. Growth in electric vehicle component manufacturing and data center investment around the Tahoe-Reno industrial hub, where MIT Technology Review reports 13 million square feet of data center space is under construction, is shaping future electrical infrastructure planning.
There is also strong public investment in water and transport projects that is boosting the prospects for the AEC industry.
