With a Federal Energy Regulatory Commission OK granted on May 23 to develop its latest export terminal of natural gas liquidated in Louisiana, the Venture Global LNG Inc. energy firm. He is “immediately” starting the construction of the project, his CEO said.
The installation, known as the Calcasieu Pass 2 (CP2), would be built on 1,150 hectares near the existing terminal of Calasieu Pass de Venture Global on the coast of Golf in Cameron Parish, La.
CP2 would have an identifying plaque capacity of 20 million metric tonnes a year and a maximum capacity of 28 million metric tons and has been estimated to cost up to $ 28 billion if it is completely built.
The owner has not specified a costs estimate for the work, but he has recently achieved $ 3 billion in bank loans he said will be placed in CP2.
“With all the federal approvals we now have in hand, we hope to immediately launch the construction on -site in this project that will deliver GNL of reliable low cost to the world from 2027,” said the company’s CEO, Mike Sabel, in a statement.
Venture Global previously appointed Australia Worley as an engineering, recruitment and project construction contractor.
The installation is expected to include 36 liquidation trains, four storage tanks, two marine loading bumps and a combined gas turbine power plant with a capacity of 1,440 MW. Venture Global also plans to build more than 90 kilometers of pipes that connect the installation with the network of natural gas pipes in the county of Jasper, Texas.
The commission originally approved the project last June, but set aside this approval after environmental proponents would challenge it in court and ask for an additional review. In March, officials in the United States Department of Energy had approved separate GNL export permits from the planned installation.
Ferc’s additional environmental review determined that the project may proceed. The new re-approval is “illegal and morally helpless”, said the South Environmental Law Center.
“ The Ferc is again a rubber fossil infrastructure that will permanently displace fishermen, effectively eradicate their way of life, bullde, bullfighting wetlands, and block in decades of export pollution, ” said Megan Gibson, the senior lawyer in the defense group, in a statement.
