Downtown Los Angeles was a hive of morning activity in March as crews completed a massive concrete pour for the Frank Gehry-designed Colburn Center. Between 2:30 a.m. and 8 a.m., crews placed 240 m3 of concrete from a trio of boom pumps.
Photographer Shayleen Osborn said she used a Sony Alpha 1 camera to capture the precise coordination of the operation.
“I wanted to highlight the scale of the operation and the dedication of the crew working under the lights – there’s a real sense of drive and pride in moments like this,” he says.
The work is part of a 100,000-square-foot expansion next to the downtown campus of the Colburn School of Performing Arts being built by McCarthy Building Cos.
When completed in 2027, the $337 million project will feature a 17,200-square-meter concert hall with an orchestra pit and a stage that can host large-scale works, as well as a 100-seat theater for dance and four professional-sized studios for dance instruction and rehearsal.
