The largest academic project in Colby College’s history and the new home of its music, film and performance studies, theater and dance departments, this $95 million, 74,000-square-foot building features flexible performance areas and versatile

At its peak, 163 workers were on site to meet the project’s 27-month schedule. There were no recordable incidents or lost-time accidents during the 412,000 hours worked, the filing says. Team communication included daily meetings to ensure all subcontractors understood the activity expected on site that day.

Sitting on rock, the project site required the team to install foundations and utilities. The coordination of security professionals from the contractor, the project team and the university ensured a safe work environment.

Aerial construction in the show hall also posed a particularly notable challenge due to the 40-foot ceiling height. The structure required a “dance floor” of scaffolding to eliminate aerial lifting work within the space, the filing says. The scaffolding was in place for almost five months.
