A Spokane, Wash.-based contractor will soon deliver an electronic materials facility expansion in Spokane Valley.
Solstice Advanced Materials, a Morris Plains, New Jersey-based specialty materials company, tapped Garco Construction to lead construction activity at the 200 million dollar projectthe company confirmed to Construction Dive.
On Dec. 2, Solstice announced breaking ground on the 110,000-square-foot project, which will modernize and expand the site’s production footprint by the end of 2029, according to the release. The upgraded facility will double Solstice’s production of sputter targets, a critical component used to produce the high-speed interconnects that power the most advanced memory and logic devices, according to the company.
“How the demand for artificial intelligence is acceleratinghigh-speed computing and connected technologies, we are preparing the Spokane facility to deliver the quality, reliability and scale our customers need to drive innovation,” said David Sewell, president and CEO of Solstice. “The expansion project underscores our commitment to strengthening supply chain resilience.”
Once complete, the effort will increase productivity and reduce customer lead times by approximately 25 percent, according to the release. The expansion will also introduce 100% laser vision quality inspections, real-time monitoring, full product traceability and rapid root cause analysis, all of which will increase reliability and higher yield results.
The win builds on Garco’s portfolio in Spokane. The general contractor, along with Sparks, Nevada-based Q&D Construction, also delivered major structural work to the Spokane International Airport’s $150 million terminal expansionthe airport’s most important improvement.
Founded in 1978, the company has completed more than 2,000 projects in 18 states, according to its website. In addition to manufacturing construction, its work covers the civil, commercial, industrial and military sectors, among others.
