Government’s stop threatening to stop federal construction projects

Contractors from all over the country measure the potential impact of a government stop. On Monday, a meeting between President Donald Trump and Congress leaders did not mean an agreement between the parties.

The Federal Government will close on Wednesday, October 1 if the Congress does not reach a financing agreement. This stop will freeze the construction activity immediately in certain places, both temporarily and in some cases permanently.

In Messer Construction, a contractor from Cincinnati, Paul Richter echoed these concerns.

“A prolonged halt that lasts several months could have made progress for the planning and development of future projects, causing a disruption of the flow of work on a long -term horizon,” said Richter, vice president of the operations, at Construction Dive.

Signature military projects are largely isolated in the short term, Richter said, because funding through the military construction program or maintenance and maintenance accounts are usually closed in advance. The risk comes from the staff of the installation that can be sent at home, which would prevent renewal projects from moving forward. Richter added that a long closure would hinder the future work.
