Graham has secured a key role in an £87m road improvement project in Humberside.
The Northern Ireland contractor was appointed by East Riding of Yorkshire Council to deliver the A164 and Jock’s Lodge improvement scheme.
Planning permission was granted for the project in 2020, with government funding confirmed this month to add to the local authority contribution.
The A164 carries traffic from the Humber Bridge north to Driffield, carrying up to 30,000 vehicles a day. Just south of Beverley it meets the A1079, which links the cities of Hull and York, at a pinch point known as Jock’s Lodge Junction.
Traffic lights installed at this point in 2010 have improved safety but have caused heavy congestion, according to the council.
Graham will create a roundabout at Jock’s Lodge and double a section of the A164.
Soon, vehicles and equipment will begin to move into position along the route ready for construction to begin in the spring.
Graham’s director of contracts, Alastair Lewis, said: “The upgrade of the A164 and new junction arrangements with the A1079 dual carriageway will ease congestion and improve safety for non-motorists through dedicated pedestrian routes and bicycles
“Over the coming months, the project team will be working hard to ensure the site is ready for the main construction phase – we’re looking forward to playing our part in this pivotal project and leaving a lasting legacy.”
Councilor Gary McMaster said the plan was one of the council’s biggest construction projects.
“The City Council has been working on this plan for several years, but now, with the funding in place and the appointment of the contractor, we can now move forward and make these improvements happen.
“When completed this will free up traffic on one of the East Riding’s busiest roads and in turn provide a welcome boost to the local economy.”
