Graham has secured a £20m role in the development of Lincoln’s Western Growth Corridor.
The contractor was appointed by Lincoln City Council to design and build key elements of the project, which will deliver 3,200 homes, transport infrastructure and a business park.
Procured through the Pagabo Civil Engineering and Infrastructure Framework, Graham will work on the design and construction of a bridge over the railway as well as a freestanding footbridge to improve safety and connectivity between the site and neighboring communities.
The design and construction of key access roads and bridges will be overseen by Graham’s civil engineering team.
Ecological and geotechnical surveys are already underway to inform the design process, enabling robust cost estimates to be developed and potential cost and carbon savings to be found.
The project aims to establish a major access route to the Western Growth Corridor site, enabling the delivery of thousands of homes as part of a “sustainable urban sprawl” in Lincoln.
Subject to design and budget approval, work will begin next year and then the first phase of homes will be delivered.
Graham’s director of contracts, Alastair Lewis, said the scheme is challenging and will involve dealing with complexities such as access restrictions, utilities, drainage and traffic management.
“Graham’s aim is to assess the engineering of the access road and railway bridge, looking for creative design and construction solutions that deliver cost and carbon savings, while ensuring the long-term success of the scheme chief strategy officer for the site,” he said.
Naomi Tweddle, portfolio holder for inclusive economic growth at City of Lincoln Council, said the Western Growth Corridor is key to the council’s overall vision for the city.
“Creating routes that are also accessible to both pedestrians and cyclists for sustainable urban sprawl is an absolute priority for development, so we are delighted to be able to work towards this goal,” he said.
