It’s been quite a year for the construction industry.

Between a new presidential administration, a flurry of data center activity and a changing regulatory landscape, builders have been very careful. But as the holidays approached, some of our readers decided to put down the hammers and string lights.

Here are Construction Dive’s picks for the 2025 Holiday Lights Contest. Submitted by readers over the past few weeks, all of the top submissions have a Christmas sparkle in their eyes, like a certain red-clad crew leader.

SiteWORX

You’ve seen the commercials for Santa’s reindeer and various luxury vehicles. But what if his sled and reindeer were a wheel loader and a skid steer?

That’s what SiteWORX, a total site development contractor based in Lebanon, Ohio, decided to find out. A Santa Claus waves from near his sleigh, which is a CAT 938 wheel loader, and is guided by his reindeer in the form of CAT 255 minicarts, with Rudolph leading the way.

The team’s effort culminated in a very festive spirit: after all, the presentation asks, what kid doesn’t love Santa, Rudolph and heavy equipment?

Superior Construction

If Charlie Brown were still in the market for the perfect tree, this 28-foot behemoth from Superior Construction in Jacksonville, Florida would certainly make him feel like he’d struck silver and gold (paving Burl Ives!)

The “megatree” hangs from a Superior Construction crane at the Portage, Ind., office and is lit with 3,200 lights. That doesn’t include the extra 150 lights on the top star, according to the filing.

Placing the tree required a coordinated effort by 14 members of the Superior Construction team, according to the filing (probably a lot more than your living room), and the tree is supported by a restored 1969 American 5299 crane.

DPR construction

Three cranes rise into the night sky with lights attached to their metal.

Permission granted by DPR Construction

DPR in Redwood City, California has gone vertical again this year with some illuminated cranes.

The contractor is working on it Project Inova Franconia-Springfield Hospital in Springfield, Virginia, and decided to light up the sky with a show of festive cheer.

According to the presentation, the display was designed to encourage community and teams while maintaining full security compliance. The glow, he claims, is bright enough to guide even a certain red-nosed reindeer.
