What can affect the amount of a minicar lift?

The lift capacity of the miniature shown in the spec sheet is only part of the story. Actual performance may vary based on a number of factors, and if you don’t take them into account, you can easily overload your machine or underperform at work.

Here’s what really affects how much a minicar can lift:

1. Attached weight

Each bucket, grapple or pallet fork you add takes up part of your rated lift capacity. A 400-pound attachment on a 2,500-pound capacity machine leaves you with only 2,100 pounds of usable lifting power.

2. Placement of the load (center of gravity)

The further forward or higher you lift, the more leverage the load has on your machine, reducing the stability of the lift. Always center heavy loads as close to the machine as possible.

3. Tracks vs tires

Skid steer loaders generally offer better stability and flotation on uneven terrain, which allows for safer lifting. Models with wheels may have problems with lifting capacity on loose or sloping surfaces.

4. Counterweights

Some skid steer loaders allow for optional counterweights, which help improve balance and increase usable lift capacity. These can be a smart addition to frequent heavy lifting.

5. Lift arm design
