The construction market of the Indianapolis area is hot with a diverse projects in technology, health care, sports and other sectors.
“There are currently many important projects in the Indianapolis market, with intense interest in technology companies,” says Chuck Goodrich, CEO and President of Gaylor Electric, Noblesville, Ind.
Some recent projects related to technology include 16 technological innovation districts – an area of 50 hectares at the Indianapolis Center focused on fostering innovation and economic opportunity – and the Purdue de Indianapolis Research Park, which provides incubation programs and resources for technology companies.
Goodrich attributes the growth of the technology sector to legislative actions in recent years that have been paid now.
“This growth is more than probable due to the passage of Indiana technological bills to our state house a few years ago and the fact that Indiana is a pro-Negoci state,” he says. “Large local companies, such as Eli Lilly and CO., investments in new large projects, such as Eli Lilly and CO., as well as national companies based in Indiana.”
A 2019 law provides tax incentives for data centers that include the possibility of leaving exemption from state sales on electricity, equipment and construction costs up to 50 years.
The law has led to investments in technological leaders such as Amazon, Google, Microsoft and Meta throughout Spain. In November 2024, the city of Lebanon, located 28 miles north -west of Indianapolis, approved a package of incentives to attract a goal for a data center campus in the Lebanon Lebanon Innovation District. The first phase of this project represents an investment of $ 800 million, with a potential of up to six phases for a total of 1,400 hectares.
Tom Miltner, director of O’Donnell i Naccarato, a structural engineering company based in Indianapolis, who says that technology parks are exciting development.
“These integrated campus developments mix research facilities, office spaces and laboratories to create innovation centers where technology companies and scientific organizations can collaborate and grow together,” he says. “After years of conceptual discussions, the development of multiple technology parks are advanced in the last stages of planning, with ongoing infrastructure work. This represents a strategic push to improve the position of Indianapolis in the technological sector. “”
There is also a strong growth in the healthcare sector with several new hospital projects under construction or developing.
Indiana University Health is building a new hospital on a 44 -hectare campus in Indianapolis. The installation will consolidate the methods and university hospitals existing in a single medical center. The $ 2.3 million project will have four 16 -story towers, cover about 2 million square meters of space and will include 864 beds.
Community Health Network and Lifepoint Behavioral Health, a Lifepoint Health Business Unit, announced in February that they plan to build two new 120 -bed hospitals in the Grand Indianapolis area.
Lilly has announced an investment of $ 4.5 billion to create Lilly Medicine Foundry, an advanced manufacturing center and medicine development in Lebanon. The firm is also building the Lilly Leap Innovation and Research Center of $ 13 million in Lebanon for sectors, such as pharmaceuticals, microelectronics and electric vehicles.
“After years of conceptual discussions, the developments of the Technology Park advance in the last stages of planning.”

Another area of growth is the sports sector. In January, Pacers Sports & Entertainment announced plans to build a training complex for the WNBA Indiana Fever Team. This installation of $ 78 million, of three floors, of 108,000 square meters, will have two basketball courts, strength and conditioning areas, recovery spaces and mental health support services. In addition, the Indiana University Board approved in June 2024 the construction of a $ 110 million multipurpose athletics center in the center of Indianapolis.
In the aviation sector, O’Donnell i Naccarato is the engineer of the new Airways Republic headquarters with office space, a parking garage, hotel and a training installation.
Miltner and Goodrich say there are challenges to overcome, including increasing costs. To control costs and increase safety, Gaylor has invested in its own manufacturing facilities where items such as pipe and skates racks and other items occur.
Miltner says that interest rates continue to affect project deadlines and development decisions.
“Some owners are adopting a more measured approach to the initiation of the project, carefully weighing the funding considerations against their development goals,” he says.
