United States Steel Corp. plans to build a direct reduced iron (DRI) plant at its Big River steel mill in Osceola. The scope of the project includes the construction of construction spaces and equipment foundations; structural steel assembly; and purchase and installation of a reduction furnace, conveyors, coke ovens and iron ore and coke handling equipment and systems. After approval of the permit, a construction schedule will be drawn up. The company will use the plant to produce DRI raw materials for the steel’s electric arc furnaces. United States Steel also plans to upgrade blast furnace No. 14 and the hot strip mill at its Gary Works mill in Gary, Indiana, and build a slag recycling facility and upgrade the hot strip mill at Mon Valley Works’ Edgar Thomson plant in Braddock, Pennsylvania. Colorado
Swire Coca-Cola USA plans to build a beverage bottling plant at Peak Innovation Park in Colorado Springs. The scope of the project includes the construction of a 620,000 square meter building; and purchase and installation of stainless steel tanks and piping, resin storage silos, conveyors, coolers, and extrusion, mixing, flow measurement, filling, labeling, capping, barcoding, and packaging equipment and systems. The Whiting-Turner Contracting Co. has been selected to offer design and construction services. Construction is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2026. Swire will use the plant to produce canned and bottled carbonated soft drinks, waters, teas, juice drinks and sports drinks. The facility will replace the company’s current Denver plant. Kentucky
EJ Group, Inc. is considering building an iron foundry in Franklin. The scope of the project includes the construction of construction spaces and equipment foundations; and purchase and installation of a furnace, bridge cranes, conveyors and casting, machining and finishing equipment and systems. A construction schedule has not been developed. EJ Group would use the foundry to produce log covers, tree grates and other access solutions for water, sewerage, drainage, telecommunications and utilities. EJ Group, Inc.
