Major construction clients including Manchester Airports Group and developer CBRE have joined with other industry bodies to create a vision for economic improvement.

The Inclusive Growth Commission aims to develop practical plans for fairer and more inclusive wealth generation across the UK.

It has established a four-pronged approach to developing physical, human, financial and knowledge capital through building, training, investment and networking.

Members of the commission include CBRE division chairman Ciaran Bird, Mace Consultancy chief executive Jason Millett and Manchester Airport Group chief executive Ken O’Toole.

The Association of British Insurers, Make UK, Forth Ports and the Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing Research Center are also represented on the panel.

Political advisers include figures from the Center for Social Justice, the University of Manchester and the Fabian Society.

Bird said: “This commission provides a long overdue view of what is needed to boost growth and boost the UK economy.

“Both government and business have a vital role to play, and our experience will be invaluable in guiding solutions, particularly around capital investment, housing, planning and infrastructure.”

The panel wants to “accelerate” low-carbon solutions and increase efforts to reach net zero goals, he added.

“We look forward to working together as a collective to put forward a holistic path forward to help the UK make better use of its strengths and attract higher levels of investment.”
