In zero in the key sectors of growth: science and technology, health care projects and energy/public services specific to the campus infrastructure, affiliaed engineers Inc. (AEI) has strategically increased its regional market share. The firm registered a 46% income growth in the southwest last year, 35% in Colorado, Wyoming and Interouuntain, according to the means to take advantage of data and technology in various high-profile projects. Advanced manufacturing has also become an important market for the AEI and much of the additional revenue came from customers in this market, which have promoted the overall Phoenix growth.
AEI approaches 1,000 employees to 21 offices across the country: 55 are in Phoenix and Tucson. It is located in the 48th place in the list of ENR design companies in the mountains of mountain and south -with $ 20.58 million of reported income for 2024, up to $ 15.24 million by 2023.
ENR publisher Jennifer Seward sat with Steve Yanke, director of the AEI, to discuss the southern presence -west of the firm. The following Q&A has been edited and condensed.
Where do you see the change farthest south -west?
When I moved to Arizona in 2002, we had hospitality, residential, health care and some corporate work. Our first significant project was the new emergency service of Banner Baywood Medical Center. It was about 40,000 square feet … And it seemed to me, Gee, now we have done it. For the past two years, with TSMC that enters the market, Intel continues to grow along with the Lucid and LG battery, advanced manufacturing and even critical mission are really where enormous growth is. I think healthcare will always be “to build -and will come” but [this is also true] for advanced manufacturing; It is a new market and grows rapidly. We are well positioned to be part of these projects due to our scientific and technological background. They require large clean rooms and attention to temperature and humidity. They need great power. And they require not only the plumbing from the point of view of the pipes, but the gases of pipes and the processed gases, and we have home process engineering. When we started involving -more on the biggest scale, we have been very successful with them.
AEI is projected again
Banner Health Scottsdale Health Center Plus It is designed and built to meet the requirements of the green construction program for the city of Scottsdale, Ariz., as well as the International Code of Green Building.
Valleywise Newwise Medical Center He won a Merit ENR Award for Health Care. Based on its legacy to improve community health, the 10-story medical center of 673,000 square meters in Phoenix is advancing net health education and health care at the same time providing resources for the disregarded.
Arizona State University Physical Science Center He won a Merit Early Education Award for Higher Education and Research. Renovations of the wing of 65,900 square meters and the renovations of 24,700 square meters modernize the classrooms and research laboratories with sustainable systems and design characteristics and improve accessibility, functionality and capacity for university education Ada.
What new technologies implements?
“We are as busy as we have ever been, but maybe with a little different projects.”
—Theve Yanke, director, AEI
A large part of the firm, especially in California and Phoenix, has been supporting decarbonization studies: they eliminate fossil fuels. As part of this, we are looking at the microgids, we are looking at how to support the campus infrastructure without burning fuel. There are software packages, Xendee is one of them, which allow us to make some rapid assessments of different combinations of energy sources. We use Power Bi a little internally and helps as a visualization tool to show our customers how to build the project, both from an energy and cost point of view, and how it can be progressed. Everyone talks about artificial intelligence and, without a doubt, we are discovering how it fits our future. What are the rules for using it and how do we get the most out of our data without opening all this data in the rest of the world?
What is your economic perspective like?
Cautiously optimistic. We are as busy as we have ever been, but maybe with a little different projects. We are attentive to what happens with NIH grants and funding. Some of our research on higher education really depended on these. And, although we have not seen that much of our projects stop, we have seen that some slow down or stop or maybe they will never leave the ground. It is good that we are rooted in various markets, as it provides a certain resilience. In Arizona and even in New Mexico, we are seeing a lot of hospital care and even if they are not new buildings, it is always necessary to make improvements. And many of them built in the 70’s are reaching their effective use of space planning and equipment.

What makes AEI different in the current market?
We have seen a lot of consolidation of venture capital companies, which are not us. Our 51 shareholders provide the Directorate General and our commitment is with our customers.
