The strong local opposition has again submitted the final approval of the New Jersey Passeric Sewer Commission to build a $ 180 million Gas power plant in Newark, NJ, as an emergency security copy, although the governor’s cards Phil Murphy (D) and the State Environmental Protection Department last year are already ensured.

The opponents, including many Newark residents, which the State has considered a community with pollution, claimed in a mid -March commission that the plant issued too much methane, sulfur and other pollutants.

The installation was proposed a few years ago to avoid a repetition of the total loss of wastewater treatment power that occurred in 2012, when the flood of Superstorm Sandy flooded the place and the unpaid wastewater flowed on the streets of Newark and the Pasic river.

The DEP commissioner, Shawn Latourette, in a 16 -page decision for the backup power plant, said that, despite the resilience improvements of the network he has made, the local power signage PSE & G said that he could not guarantee the service during extreme weather conditions, accidents and failures or damage to the teams, according to the decision.

The commission said it would explore “important changes in technologies”, but did not say when a new vote would occur. The backup plant was located in the Newark iron section and would be the fourth fossil fuel plant in this area, if they are built, the opponents say.
