McLaren is combining its London and southern England businesses into a new national headquarters in Canary Wharf.
The company, which had a turnover of more than £726m in its last financial year, will see 240 staff relocate from its Chiswell Street offices in the City of London, as well as its historic headquarters at McLaren House in Brentwood, Essex. Their new office will be at 20 Churchill Place on the Isle of Dogs, with staff moving in in September.
The new combined division will be led by managing director Darren Gill and will include sector heads for education and hotels (Tony Whyte), commercial work (Dominic Egan), data centers (Tony La Croix), residential and health (Richard Eager) and industrial and logistics work (David Gavin).
The company also has a Midlands, North and UAE business based in Solihull, with additional offices in Cheshire and Dubai. McLaren’s property and development arm will continue to be based in new offices in Mayfair, west London, where it moved in January.
The company said its new offices and division had been “designed as a collaborative space”, adding that the move responds to an increase in mixed-use work and “will create”.[e] a center of excellence and allows individual colleagues to expand their experience in a more diverse range of sectors”.
Paul Heather, group managing director of McLaren Construction, said: “Our market has evolved. Re-use from one use to another is common, single buildings have multiple uses and place-making in some of our more grans makes the community live, work and play in new autonomous neighborhoods.
“Our people need experience in all the common sectors: their complexities and how they fit together. The London and South region has the scale to deliver this expertise and foster industry-leading expertise.”
Kevin Taylor, chairman of McLaren, said: “I will be delighted to see colleagues at McLaren working together day in and day out, sharing ideas, experience and specialist knowledge across sectors, geographies and technologies.
“The best way to achieve this is to bring people together in one place and one team. The London & South center of excellence will complement our Midlands & North division and have the critical mass to support our colleagues in their learning, professional development and well-being.
“The scale and character of this new headquarters reflects McLaren’s growth and transformation.”
Gill said: “The creation of the new London & South business is an exciting opportunity for us to grow a sustainable and profitable business, combining the skills of people from across McLaren. I look forward to leading the new team into the future.”
McLaren said its “enhanced work environment” will be complemented by improved HR policies, such as increased maternity and paternity pay, as well as adoption, surrogacy and carer leave policies.
