The Village of Merrickville-Wolford is beefing up its security in a couple of places.
At its meeting earlier this week, the council voted to install two security cameras, one in the public works yard and the other on the ball diamond at the Merrickville Community Center.
Mayor Michael Cameron says the move comes after a backhoe was stolen from the public works yard last year, prompting them to try to move forward more proactively to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
He says they bought the cameras last year, but had to go through the proper process before installing them.
Cameron says that any future cameras that may be installed will be done through the same process.
“We will not advance with cameras throughout the municipality, it will be as necessary and if necessary.”
Signs will also be posted to let people know the cameras are in place.
