The $ 274.5 million design design project completes a 25 mile belt with a new directional system exchange that reduces the maintenance of the bridge by 50% and eliminates problematic fabric areas.
Other functions include more than two kilometers of limited toll road, accommodation for future I-4 lanes, 20 new bridges and other infrastructure improvements.
Geotechnical challenges, including weak soils and high levels of groundwater, were mitigated by advanced foundation techniques such as stack -supported structures, optimized embankments and charging areas. The mechanically stabilized terrestrial walls up to 40 feet high were housed in a tight corridor and eliminated the need for walls.
Changing the interstate alignment in the West retained a line of energy transmission to its current location, eliminating more than four years of design and relocation activities along with millions of moves in moving costs. The movement also allowed the main construction works to be carried out outside the existing interstate footprint, reducing traffic changes and increasing security.
Robust safety efforts, including a strong approach to good practices and 4 seconds from Lane 4 according to the security initiative, helped the team to complete more than a million hours of workers in the project without a lost time or a registered incident.
The project was completed in the budget and the calendar in December 2024.
