The plans to rebuild four dams on the Michigan Titabawassee River advance as Four Lakes Task Force, the group leading the projects, says he received the final permission of the State Environment Department, Great Lakes and Energy for the Restoration of Edenville’s Dam. FLTF says that it now has permissions to repair and rebuild the four dams, which estimates that it will cost together $ 350 million together.
Edenville and Sanford’s prey failed in the middle of heavy rains in May 2020, and the prisoners of Smallwood and Seconds were damaged. All four consisted of embankments of land and closed concrete spills. They also had the power stations since their time as hydroelectric facilities, but the Federal Energy Regulation Commission revoked the former -propietary Boyce Hydro’s license to generate energy at Edenville in 2018, and finished licenses for others in 2021.
Edenville has required the most complex permission of the four dams, needing studies of flooding plains, map reviews and the United States Fish Service and wildlife service permits related to a kind of protected mussel. Its construction is scheduled for five phases, three of which have covered the emergency stabilization and the construction of a cutting wall and are already complete.
“The acquisition of this permit has been an extensive process,” said Dave Kepler, President of FLTF, in a statement.
The fourth phase of the construction is substantially complete according to FLTF, but the work was suspended last year due to funding problems. The group received a subsidy of $ 200 million from the state for projects, but additional municipal funding depends on a special lake level evaluation, which is currently the focus of a lawsuit with the Supreme Court of Michigan. FLTF recently filed a motion to apply for a May 1 decision.
FLTF also recently presented a Michigan Environment Department’s Mitigation and Rim Control Plan, Great Lakes and Energy, but a FLTF spokesman claims that the review is expected to be complete at the end of April and that construction is not dependent on this review.
The fifth phase of the construction of the Edenville Dam is scheduled to include updates on its two aspects and the addition of an auxiliary side to protect the dam during a major flood.
With the municipal funding awaiting the result of the judicial case, FLTF also suspended the work of Midland, Mich., Fisher Contracting Co., in Secondary and Smallwood prey at safe stop points last year and is also in the process of suspending work at Sanford.
If the court case is resolved in time to take advantage of this year’s construction season and there is no additional suspensions, FLTF estimates over the Smallwood Dam could be completed by the end of this year, Secondary and Sanford prey could be completed by May 2026, and Edenville’s Dam could achieve substantial completion during the summer of 2027.
