Microsoft Corp. He has agreed to buy up to 622,500 tonnes of low -carbon cementador materials from the first sublime trade factory Systems in Holyoke, Mass.
The technological giant will use a sublime carbon sublime cement to reduce the company’s carbon footprint on its planned project portfolio, including data centers over the next two decades. Sublime produces its cement products, including concrete, using an electrolytic process to turn limestone into lime similar to the one used for metals such as aluminum, magnesium and copper. The approach replaces the traditional high -temperature lime production process with energy intensity with one that can be done at room temperature.
“ When designing creative transactions like this with sublime, Microsoft aims to accelerate mass production and adoption of net construction materials, allowing innovative to overcome the real and sharp challenges of climbing in the existing heavy industries, ” said Jeff Leper, vice -president of the construction of the Global Data Center for Microsoft in a statement. “We need innovative products, reprinted as sublime cement on scale to reduce emissions, both in Microsoft and worldwide.”
Sublime greeted the agreement as a boost for the next phase of growth of the company. “This purchase allows Microsoft to access sublime carbon low cement technology regardless of its construction,” said Leah Ellis, CEO and co -founder of sublime Systems, in a statement. “This solves an intractable challenge for net cement extension: the lack of long -term cement transactions contrasts with the immediate need for innovative to demonstrate banking customers to fund their manufacture.”
Sublime has recently completed its first two concrete projects made with its low carbon cement in Boston with the Turner Construction contractor and the provider ready of Mix Boston Sand and Gravel. Both the contractor and the concrete supplier said that the process was no different than providing concrete ready for placement to any other workplace.
Contractors will ultimately be those who comply with Microsoft’s commitments to buy the concrete used in the critical projects of the Developer/Owner’s mission.
