The Great Lakes Water Authority has committed NORESCO to carry out $ 100 million in improvements to its Water Resource Recovery installation (WRRF) in Detroit, the wastewater treatment plant in a larger place in the country.
The work, structured as phase 2 of a continuous progressive design construction contract, is significantly expanded into a previous rehabilitation effort and aims to strengthen resilience while also reduces confidence in drinking water.
The last range is focused on replacing a final effluent pump station of almost 50 years with a right -sized right -wing installation designed for 60 million daily gallons for supplying non -drinking water for uses that do not require consumption quality.
A new reuse flow will also be introduced, capable of delivering 4 mgd of filtered and disinfected water to meet the demands of the internal process on the WRF.
After the completion, most of the water needs in the installation process will be provided by the treated wastewater, with drinking water available only as a backup.

Glwa said he selected a progressive design model to carry out the work that cite that the delivery method offers “greater costs”, reduces the risks of the calendar and improves efficiency. The collaboration dates to an initial energy audit of Noresco that reported phase 1 of the program and established the stage of the extended phase 2 scope.
Public procurement records show that Noresco previously received the SFE bomb rehabilitation contract within the framework of the GLWA Capital Improvement Plan (project 216008). This contract, valued at about $ 3.4 million, was awarded in a specialized contracting process.
The new $ 100 million commitment reflects much wider expansion, which incorporates both new infrastructure and resilience measures. The Glwa Capital 2025-2029 Plan emphasizes the renewal of infrastructure, resilience improvements and accessibility measures.
Detroit WRRF attends detroit and 76 surrounding communities, which covers a service area of more than 946 square kilometers and provides wastewater treatment for almost 30% of Michigan’s population.
