“Construction is booming, driven by strong demand for new infrastructure, reimagined education and healthcare, commercial development and new housing,” says Hempstead. “The city’s growth is driven by both public and private investment, reflecting Indianapolis’ appeal as a thriving center for business and innovation.
“An exciting development is the restoration of the White River’s waterfront through the Reconnecting to Our Waterways initiative, which revitalizes the city’s waterways and surrounding neighborhoods and towns,” he adds. “This project is transforming the coastline and emphasizes our shared responsibility to protect natural resources while improving public spaces.
“The AEC sector today faces a shortage of qualified professionals, especially architects, engineers and designers. There is also an urgent need for more diverse talent to better reflect the communities we serve. Diversity is one of the core values of Schmidt Associates. We are addressing these challenges by engaging the next generation through our Architecture and Engineering 101 classes, which introduce high school students to potential careers in the industry,” he says.
