Mace celebrates Pride Month with a sculpture to promote diversity and inclusion in the construction sector.
The installation, which consists of more than 40 bespoke wooden panels fitted into a bench, was designed as an “amazing talking point” for the month of June, which is celebrated annually as Pride Month for the LGBTQ+ community.
The sculpture is in the lobby of Mace’s headquarters in Moorgate, London, and will be moved to its in-house cafe later this month.
Created with sustainable materials, some of which were reclaimed from the company’s sites, the elements of the sculpture were carved and painted in several locations by different trades in a joint effort before being assembled.
Around three-fifths of LGBTQ+ employees have been subjected to homophobic and derogatory terms at work, according to the Chartered Institute of Building.
Ian McIver, co-chair of the Pride at Mace employee network group, said the sculpture’s legacy would continue beyond Pride Month.
“We know that having a truly diverse workplace has incalculable benefits, from greater innovation to the wisdom of different viewpoints, and we’re thrilled to support Pride Month in this unique way,” she said. to say.
“We hope the sculpture will be a place for colleagues, friends and strangers to come together, reflect and discuss diversity and inclusion throughout June and beyond.”
