Construction materials prices increased by 0.5% monthly in March, with annual prices 0.8%, according to the United States Labor Statistics Price Office Index, published on April 11. While the tariff administration in various countries is still volatile, the prices of many materials begin to see the effects.
“The emerging effects of the rates are fixed on the release of March data, with iron and steel, steel factory products and copper threads and cable prices that increase more than 5% of the month,” said Anirban Basu, chief economist of builders and contractors associated in a statement.
The prices for the steel factory product increased by 7.1% in March, compared to February 2025, while copper cable and cable prices, as well as iron and steel, increased by 5.5% in the same period of time. Soft wooden wood also experienced a significant increase, at a rate of 4.7%.
“Although the contractors are still occupied, according to the Backlog Indicator of Backlog of Back Construction, this rate of climbing in entry prices, together with the increase in uncertainty, will make the projects delay and cancel if it persists for a significant time,” said Basu.
