McCarthy Building Cos. recently celebrated the topping out of the $185 million Interdisciplinary Science and Technology Building 12 (ISTB12) on Arizona State University’s Polytechnic campus in Mesa, Arizona. Designed by Smith groupthe 173,194-square-foot research and education building will be a landmark innovation for the School of Engineering’s new Ira A. Fulton School of Manufacturing Systems and Networks. ISTB12 houses laboratory research spaces, offices, meetings, instruction and collaboration with specialized infrastructure and laboratories in additive manufacturing, robotics for smart manufacturing and industrial automation, cyber manufacturing and operations research, manufacturing of semiconductors and manufacturing systems for the energy sector. Despite supply chain delays, the project is on schedule as a result of the early procurement of electrical equipment, panels and switches, as well as mechanical air handling units. McCarthy’s artisan labor team has completed the project’s concrete, civil, plumbing and steel work. This is ASU’s first construction project to use several prefabrication innovations, including off-site and assembled multi-store corridor frames, prefabricated support panels for the building enclosure, and a unistrut system on the deck cast into the slabs for future flexibility.

McShane Construction Co. the recently completed construction of Manor Scottsdale, a 286-unit apartment complex located in Scottsdale, Arizona, and designed by Architects Humphreys & Partners. The five-story wraparound style building features one, two and three bedroom units with quartz countertops, smart home technology and private balconies for each residence. The building sits on a 6.5 hectare site and includes 32 penthouse apartments and 19 mountain view apartments. There are also 24 kosher apartments.
Facilities include a fitness center with yoga and spinning rooms, a wellness center and sauna, a clubhouse kitchen, a game room with an arcade and golf simulator, an outdoor pool, a grotto and kitchens summer The community also offers electric vehicle charging stations and a smart parcel room with cold storage.
