Contractors have been alerted to two Network Rail frameworks worth a total of more than £2 billion in the Midlands and East regions.

Under Network Rail Infrastructure Ltd’s first framework, valued at £1.15 billion, contractors are needed for reactive works and small schemes on Network Rail buildings and civil assets in the eastern region.

The work, described as “low complexity” by Network Rail, includes reactive call-outs and planned preventive maintenance work affecting the operation of the railway.

It is divided into four batches, with the first two covering building and civil assets on the East Anglia route.

The third and fourth lots relate to construction goods and civil goods on the North and East, East Coast and East Midlands routes.

Successful contractors will be responsible for tasks such as bridge and tunnel maintenance, soil and rock cutting and first response to earthworks.

The initial duration of the framework is five years with the option of extension for two more periods of one year each.

You can check the framework recruitment advertisement here.

The second framework, worth £1.05 billion, will select companies to carry out unsignalled work as part of the Midlands Rail Hub alliance, with Network Rail as a client.

The hub scheme will take place across the West, Central and East Midlands to provide additional services between central Birmingham and key regional cities.

Work under the framework includes the design and construction of new platforms and linings and up to two new arrangements on Birmingham Moor Street.

The companies will also provide power supply upgrades, new cargo loops and overhead line equipment and various signage works.

A signaling partner will be appointed separately, Network Rail said.

Interested companies can register here, with a market briefing scheduled for January.
