Platinum contracting, a Las Vegas-based civil and underground utility contractor, recently completed a large-scale underground infrastructure project at Summerlin West, the next phase of the existing Summerlin residential community in the Las Vegas area. The facility supports the expansion of the last section of the master-planned community, which spans more than 22,000 acres in southern Clark County. Overall, the new extension will lay the foundation for several planned subdivisions, according to the contractor. Today, Summerlin West includes more than 15 different neighborhoods, along with more than 25 community parks, 16 public schools, 10 private schools, and a 485-bed hospital. Platinum’s responsibilities under this contract include the installation of dry utilities such as telecommunications lines, natural gas pipelines and electrical systems.

“Completing this project represents a key milestone in the growth of Southern Nevada,” said Robert Jay, president and partner of Platinum Contracting. “Our team brought extensive experience in heavy civil and underground utility work to this company.” The Howard Hughes Corp., owner of the master-planned community, completed the first phase of development in 1990. The community is named after Howard Hughes’ grandmother, Jean Amelia Summerlin.
