Previously called the advanced water purification installation, the pure water center will produce 10 million additional gallons of drinking water a day to the residents of El Paso, according to the release.

Roberto Bustamante’s wastewater treatment plant will provide treated water for installation, depending on the release. The treated water is undergoing a purification process in several steps (including membrane filtration, reverse osmosis, UV light with advanced oxidation, granular activated carbon filtration and chlorine disinfection) to overcome the standards of drinking water quality.
The Paso Water worked with the Environmental Quality Texas Commission for more than a decade to ensure that the water produced at the installation will meet the state and federal drinking water requirements, according to the statement. TCEQ granted the final approval of the design by the end of 2024, allowing the construction to advance.
The project is expected to be complete for 2028.
