Turner Construction has turned dirt into a new $500 million hospital project in Broward County, Florida.
The New York City-based contractor celebrated the innovative for Baptist Health Sunrise Hospital, located in Sunrise, Florida, a half-hour drive west of Fort Lauderdale.
The campus has been designed to support immediate healthcare needs as well as long-term growth in the region, according to a press release. The installation will include:
- A 30-bed emergency service with triage areas and emergency care 24 hours a day.
- 100 inpatient beds, including 10 critical care beds, with capacity for future expansion.
- Four surgical suites with robotics-assisted capabilities and space to add additional suites.
- A 25,000 square foot medical office building that houses a wide variety of medical services.
The hospital will also have its own central power plant and mechanical systems. The plant will provide a dedicated, uninterrupted power source during larger-scale outages, an important factor in hurricane-prone Florida.
Baptist Health Sunrise is expected to open to patients in 2029.
“Turner is proud to partner with Baptist Health on a hospital that prioritizes resiliency, advanced technology and a patient-centered environment while allowing flexibility to grow alongside the community it serves,” Kevin McCormick, vice president and CEO of Turner, said in a Feb. 2 news release.
Sanitary construction has been a bright spot for builders recently. While data center construction has dominated the industry’s focus, healthcare construction also showed resilience in 2025, although sector planning fell to begin in 2026. For example, McCarthy Building Cos. recently highlighted the overcoming of a $3.7 million healthcare tower for UC Davis Health in Sacramento, California.
