ENR California is pleased to announce the winners of its Regional Best Projects 2024 competition!

After several weeks of hard work, an independent panel of AEC experts reviewed 90 projects from across California and Hawaii and selected 30 top projects and 27 awards of merit. The California contest is split into two separate regions; North and South

Projects were evaluated based on the project team’s ability to overcome challenges, their contribution to the industry and community, safety and quality of construction and design.

The judges of the 2024 competition were:

  • Amer Bata, deputy director of department, AECOM
  • Doug Conrath, Director (retired), CRB
  • Steve Friar, Hensel Phelps Western US Regional Planning Director
  • Red Gayita, regional executive/special projects, Bernards
  • Donald Kahn, Project Executive, Largo Concrete
  • Beatriz Kim, Head of Engineering Team, Rosendin
  • Phil LeCocq, Project Manager, Engineering Division, California Department of Water Resources
  • Rory Madden, Senior Project Manager, coDesign
  • Danica Mason, Director, Red Team Go!
  • David Mori, Engineering Manager, City of Anaheim Public Works
  • Allison Otto, president and CEO of Otto Construction
  • Caleigh Raymer, Construction Manager, PCL

As always, to avoid conflicts of interest, our judges did not score any category in which their companies submitted proposals, and refrained from scoring projects in which they had any involvement.

Winners of the Excellence in sustainability prize and the Excellence in security the award for the California regions will be announced in August.

All winning project teams, as well as Owner of the Year, Design Firm of the Year, Contractor of the Year, Specialty Contractor of the Year and Legacy Award winners, will be recognized at a couple of awards events in October.

In addition to selecting the category winners, the judges have also chosen three finalists each for Northern California and Southern California to be considered as ENR California’s 2024 Projectswhich will also be announced at the Best Projects events.

  • The Southern California awards will be presented on October 15 in Los Angeles (click here for more information).
  • The Northern California awards will be presented on October 17 in San Francisco (click here for more information).

This year’s winning projects in the major categories, listed below, will be described in depth in the October print edition of ENR California.

Congratulations to this year’s winners!
