A pair of local authorities are looking for a developer to build £500m worth of homes in far south Wales.
Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan councils this week published a contract notice for their new housing association.
The successful company will develop a number of sites across the region over a 12-year period.
The councils intend to enter into separate contracts with the developer for each site in the programme.
Work to be delivered could include demolition, site cleanup, construction, plumbing, engineering, consulting and project management, according to the contract announcement.
Companies have until December 11 to express their interest, and tenders are expected to be sent to up to four companies in February.
More than 1,600 homes were built in Cardiff in the 12 months to 31 March 2023, according to a report assessing the progress of the city’s Local Development Plan.
According to the council, this was the biggest annual growth in the last 15 years.
Dan De’Ath, cabinet member for strategic planning and transport for Cardiff, said in October: “The council has been consulting on the preferred strategy for the Replacement Local Development Plan (RDLP) which will shape the development of the city until 2036.
“In October this year, there are more than 8,000 applications from people looking for housing on the council’s waiting list, so there is a clear need to build housing, especially affordable housing, and they could deliver 6,000 affordable homes during the term of the RDLP. .”
