A Tren Maya worker transported his co-worker’s body more than 100 kilometers aboard a backhoe without help from any authority.

According to unofficial information, on Tuesday afternoon, July 9, JJPP, 24 years old, was working at kilometer 30 of the federal road Bacalar-Felipe Carrillo Puerto, very close to the turnoff in Mahahual and about 2 kilometers from the town of Limones .

The backhoe fell into a sinkhole. The operator was ejected from the cabin, causing several injuries that led to his death within minutes.

Another worker tried to help him, but was unable to do anything. He said no one from his crew was around, so he called for backup from the bikers, but none of them stopped.

At night and in despair, he loaded the body into the backhoe to take it to a hospital. However, on the journey, which lasted more than 8 hours, fear made him take the body to the town of Sabidos, in the region on the banks of the Hondo River and more than 100 kilometers from where it occurred the accident

After the long journey, the body of the deceased worker arrived at 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday. In Sabidos, the victim’s family received the body and prepared it for the funeral.

However, an anonymous call informed 911 of Emergencies and agents of the Rural State Police (PRE), whose agents confirmed this fact. The authorities took the body for an autopsy.

The preliminary ruling showed that death was due to head trauma and broken vertebrae. Authorities confiscated the backhoe as evidence and arrested the person who moved the body.

Image of the recent floods in Quintana Roo, which have affected the construction of the Maia Train.

In another incident in Bacalar, the water runoff caused by the storms that have affected the southern area of Quintana Roo has affected a large construction section of the Tren Maya tracks.

The water has spread to the west of the city, moving and flooding part of the train route. Days before, the effects were evident in the populated area, that is, in the neighborhood of Diego Rojas, where the water rose to a height of 3.5 meters and flooded houses and vehicles after the rains caused by the storm tropical Alberto

Water covers at least 1.5 kilometers of a half-built railway section and now remains underwater.

David García, a neighbor affected by the floods, explained that the water has dropped a few centimeters in some areas. Even so, it spread to the west, where the water rose several meters in just one night.

He said that one and a half kilometers from the neighborhood of Diego Rojas the Maya Train passes, where the water went in the last few days and where there are areas where the water rose several meters.

Environmental specialists warned military engineers that the areas around Bacalar and Chetumal are prone to flooding. However, the warning was of little use as the work continued.
