In a progressive move towards strengthening infrastructure development and improving road maintenance capabilities across the country, the government has unveiled an ambitious initiative to deploy a number of road construction equipment across Ghana’s 261 districts.
This flagship project, coined as the ‘One District Maintenance Machine’, underscores the administration’s unwavering commitment to foster efficient road management amid prevailing economic challenges.
The announcement of this strategic deployment was made by Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the communications director of the 2024 campaign of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who revealed the full selection of heavy machinery meant for allocation among the districts. Inventory includes excavators, backhoes, wheel loaders, motor graders, skid steers, skid steers, articulated dump trucks and various essential equipment crucial to road maintenance operations.
Underlining the profound impact of this substantial investment, Mr. Aboagye stressed that the supply of advanced road construction machinery is aimed at expediting road remodeling and maintenance tasks, ensuring greater accessibility and safety on roads spanning the entire country.
In addition, the vice president, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, revealed the imminent arrival of additional road equipment scheduled for June 2024, with each Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assembly (MMDA) set to receive a full set of construction equipment, including bulldozers and trucks tippers This strategic move aims to strengthen road construction efforts within the assemblies, with a concerted focus on fostering optimal conditions for vehicle movement and transport infrastructure.
In outlining the operational framework, Dr. Bawumia stressed the collaborative participation of the 48 Engineer Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces, expected to collaborate with entities in the district to execute road construction projects.
In addition, the government will provide critical resources such as fuel, sand and stones to facilitate smooth infrastructure development initiatives at the grassroots level.
Addressing broader development concerns, Dr. Bawumia championed the need to streamline land registration processes, advocating a digitized approach to empower chiefs and queen mothers to ensure formal registration of their lands.
At the same time, he reaffirmed the government’s strong stance against LGBTQ+ practice, emphasizing Ghana’s cultural values and religious principles as indispensable pillars that define the norms and boundaries of society.
To engage with key demographics, particularly the youth cohort, Dr. Bawumia convened a Youth Connect Town Hall meeting during his regional visits, articulating his strong commitment to fight corruption through innovative digital interventions while championing accountability in governance.
Citing his tireless advocacy of impactful policies such as free high school education and health innovations such as drone-supported medical supplies, he sought popular support as a torchbearer for progress and reform in the upcoming presidential election .
