It’s time once again to announce the winners of ENR Southwest’s annual Best Projects competition. For more than 25 years, the regional publication has cited the best in design and construction in Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico, and this year is no exception. Our panel of industry judges reviewed nearly 100 entries in various categories.

Thanks to our judges, listed below in alphabetical order:

  • Sergio Carrasco, Project Architect, Holly Street Studio
  • Michael D’Andrea, Vice President of Development and Construction, GCON Inc.
  • Alicia Duffy, Project Manager, Mortenson
  • Stephanie Handley, Vice President of Economic Development at Clayco
  • Kai Kaoni, Associate Professor of Practice, Northern Arizona University School of Construction Management
  • Ryan O’Donnell, Chief Operating Officer, Balfour Beatty
  • Peter Rasmussen, Director, Shepley Bulfinch
  • Cassie Saba Robertson, SW Regional Precast Leader, DPR Construction
  • James Trahan, Partner | Principal, 180 Degrees Design + Construction

Criteria include Innovation, Teamwork, Community Service, Safety and Quality of Design and Construction. Note that any judges with ongoing projects were assigned to different categories.

Two judges selected the Safety Excellence winners, with a special emphasis on safety programs, cultures and outcomes:

  • Ryan Burns, Director of Field Operations, Kovach
  • Matt Gilliland, Director of Safety for the CHASSE Construction Team

In addition to selecting category winners, judges have also chosen several finalists for ENR Southwest’s Project of the Year, with the winner announced at the regional Best Projects event in November. We will preview the finalists in another blog before the event.

All winning project teams will be recognized in Phoenix at a luncheon on November 7 at the Renaissance Phoenix Downtown Hotel.
