The Cleveland Cavaliers of the NBA have advanced in a state-of-the-art training and performance complexaccording to a press release dated October 14.
Along with the Cleveland Clinic and Bedrock Real Estate, the Cavs broke ground on the 210,000-square-foot Cleveland Clinic Global Peak Performance Center designed by Kansas City, Missouri-based architecture firm Populous. It is scheduled to open in 2027.
The facility is Bedrock Real Estate’s first $3.5 billion vertical development Cuyahoga Riverfront Master Plan. The Cleveland City Council voted to advance the plan in September 2023.
Bedrock will transform 35 acres along the river, according to the city of Cleveland. Construction of the first public infrastructure improvements began in October 2023.
The plan calls for more than 3.5 million square feet of mixed-use development, anchored by public improvements. It will include residential, commercial, office, commercial and entertainment spaces with more than 12 hectares set aside for public parks.
The new center will feature advanced technology and equipment, biomechanical testing systems, high-tech training equipment, virtual reality and simulation technology and wearable sensors for performance monitoring, according to the release. Its medical facilities will be open to the general public, with the attention of professionals with experience in fields such as sports medicine, cardiology, pulmonology, neurology, nutrition, psychology and genetics.
