Located in a high-traffic area of campus, the contractor prioritized campus safety and developed a project-specific safety plan to protect the university community from the impact of construction, the project team says.

Directional signage and constant communication with university facilities managers helped the construction team maintain a safe student and faculty experience throughout the project.

At its peak, 163 workers were on site to meet the project’s 27-month schedule. There were no recordable incidents or lost-time accidents during the 412,000 hours worked, the filing says. Team communication included daily meetings to ensure all subcontractors understood the activity expected on site that day.

Sitting on rock, the project site required the team to install foundations and utilities. The coordination of security professionals from the contractor, the project team and the university ensured a safe work environment.

Aerial construction in the show hall also posed a particularly notable challenge due to the 40-foot ceiling height. The structure required a “dance floor” of scaffolding to eliminate aerial lifting work within the space, the filing says. The scaffolding was in place for almost five months.
