WSP has appointed Angela Schwarz to act as a market leader in transit and railthe company said in a Nov. 20 press release. He joined WSP in 2021 and brings 30 years of project management experience.
In his new role, Schwarz will increase the company’s presence in the transit and rail markets, helping to ensure customer success with state and local transit agencies and building relationships with consultants, industry associations, railroads and contractors, according to the statement
He will also oversee planning, design, program management, and construction management tasks on major projects, such as the Positive Train Control Project for New Jersey Transit and the Communications-Based Train Control Program for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority for New York City transit, according to WSP.
Schwarz is currently a technical advisor for the MTA’s communications-based train control system, which aims to improve the efficiency and safety of the subway system’s operations, according to the release. She previously served as the Systems Delivery Package Manager for the Purple Line project, a $2 billion light rail line in the Washington, DC area.
Schwarz is adept at tackling complex technical challenges, David Weiss, national executive of WSP’s transportation and infrastructure business line, said in the statement.
“His technical expertise and leadership strengths continue to strengthen our delivery of innovative solutions to agencies across the country as they transition to zero-emission vehicles, automate operations and strive for safer services, more reliable and expanded and modernize the infrastructure,” Weiss said.
Currently based in Atlanta, Schwarz was previously the rail and transit engineering practice leader at Montreal-based AtkinsRéalis and also worked at Metropolitan Atlanta Transit Consultants, AECOM and Siemens, according to his LinkedIn.
