Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport in Hebron, Kentucky has tapped the AECOM Hunt/Skanska joint venture to provide design and construction services on its planned $575 million airport renovation.
Called Elevate CVG, after its airport code, the phased program aims to expand and renovate the facility’s main terminal and two concourses with a total of 51 gates. The facilities date back to 1993 and were last refurbished in 2012. Plans call for larger ticketing, security and baggage claim areas; replacement of the baggage handling system; new toilets; and improvements in the areas of the Federal Inspection Service. A tunnel containing an automated passenger transport connecting the terminal and concourses will also be renovated.
STV, Inc., is the program construction manager for Elevate CVG, while BEUMER Group was selected in 2023 to oversee the new baggage handling system.
According to airport filings, the initial $208 million AECOM Hunt/Skanska effort will include design and preconstruction services, enabling projects for the baggage handling system by 2025 and the scheduled start of early 2026 construction of vertical circulation improvements and an infill building for the expansion. security control area. The project team will submit a maximum guaranteed price based on the design documents of 60% for the remaining scope of the program, which will be presented to CVG’s governing board for approval in the first quarter of 2026.
Plans call for the entire program to be completed by mid-2029, with funding coming from the airport’s capital budget, general revenue bonds and passenger facilities charges.
