Washington Dulles International Airport said it plans to open in late 2026 a $500 million expansion of Concourse E that will accommodate United Airlines’ renewed fleet of new widebody and mainline aircraft and will have 14 doors and a United Club of 40,000 square meters. The 435,000-square-foot project, a collaboration between the airline and the Washington Metropolitan Airports Authority, also receives funding from the federal infrastructure act.
One phase of a long-term, multi-phase project for United’s growth at Dulles that is part of its master plan, it will add direct and easy access to the airport’s Aerotrain station that provides transportation between the main terminal and other halls. The terminal will include ample seating, concessions and retail space.
“Washington Dulles International is a key economic driver for the National Capital Region and United Airlines is our essential partner in the rapid and continued growth of the airport,” said Jack Potter, the authority’s chief executive officer, in a statement “United’s commitment to Dulles, through its support of the new concourse, its long-term expansion plans, including new flights and destinations, investment in new technical and training facilities, and the addition of thousands of local jobs, is a testament to the strength of our partnership in promoting regional economic growth and pursuing our mutual goal of providing world-class service to the traveling public.”
United also recently began construction on a 20,000-square-meter flight training center near the airport, which is set to open in 2025. The airline is also a founding partner in the upcoming transformation of Monumental Sports & Entertainment to help to revitalize downtown Washington, DC, sports and entertainment facilities.
