The construction industry in Omaha remains quite strong, with several major projects capturing the growth of the local scene, Haberman says. Project NExT is a major investment in health care education by the Nebraska Medicine Health Network and the University of Nebraska Medicine. This is a $2 billion publicly funded project that will bring a significant influx of commerce to the downtown area.
A major expansion and renovation of Eppley airfield is also underway, which is expected to be completed in four years, he adds. In addition, the Mutual of Omaha corporate headquarters project is under construction and, upon completion, will become the tallest structure in Nebraska and five surrounding states.
“We think all of these projects will spur further development, and there are a lot of pieces that are already in motion,” says Haberman. Recently completed works include the revitalization of Omaha’s waterfront and the renovation of the First National Tower, “two [projects] that we were very lucky to have trained there”, he says.
