There are several times in their working life when journalists try to say something important to readers, and one of the Edr Edr Edrial staff is the profile of the annual prize of the winner of excellence, which this year tells the story of the director of public works in Los Angeles County, Mark Pestrella.

In 2025, Enr marks the 60th anniversary of the prize. A selection process that extends over several months sees that publishers nomine and weigh candidates based on the success and impact of the industry, as reported online and printing, all in accordance with a winner who made the greatest difference in the service of the industry and the public. The winners of the last six decades clearly reflect social norms, political realities and the change of industry.

Due to its achievement in 1965 to lead military construction during the war in Vietnam, Enr recognized a superior manager of the former contractor Morrison Knudsen. In the following five years, the recipients also included those who led an anti -corruption program in Chicago’s public works, which developed federal policy efforts to promote affordable homes and used systems to expedite the larger use of compatible construction components. In the 1970’s, the scope of recognition was expanded to include those that excelled in corporate management, unifying the defense of the industry on key issues and executing some of the largest government public works programs in the United States.

In the next two decades, the prize recognized, among others, a private investment developer to expand affordable housing and the leader of the first state environmental program to clean up dangerous waste from the legacy. Another war abroad with North -American participation, this time between Kuwait and Iraq, was the context of awards for a head of the North -American construction who led the complex effort to deliberately extinguish oil fires. The leader of another mammoth environmental challenge – cleaning of huge nuclear waste stores that have been maintained since the 1940’s in an ancient place of production of little -known federal weapons – was also recognized, as well as was responsible for the construction of another major public works project, the new Denver International Airport.

Trends in recent prizes

In the last quarter of a century, ENR publishers have continued to recognize those who accelerate innovation, such as the development of the Speedcore building system, which uses double -plate wall modules linked to concrete to speed up the height building and the creation of the Riding Living Building Sustainability Program. The innovations were also called to lead young people to the training and experience of the industry and to improve the quality and safety of the workplace throughout their career.

The drinking water campaign in the United States promoted by Flint, Mich pollution crisis. Other recent winners of excellence have included industry experts, which donated the company’s professional skills and resources to reconstruct the global infrastructure after natural disasters and caused by humans.

When making each selection, Enr not only recognizes the individual achievement of the winner, but also shows an out-of-box effort that can inspire others to replicate them, hopefully that our pages and their website for at least 60 more years.
